8 year old Nicholas Middis was killed and his mother seriously injured when the unit they were sleeping in was set fire to in the early hours of the morning of the 13 th of June 2010. The offender had broken into Dolly O'Reilly's in the Hibiscus Shopping Complex and attempted to set it on fire. He then set fire to two vehicles parked nearby. A short time later he set the fatal fire by lighting material stacked against the unit where the victims were sleeping.
Justin Andrew William NONA, aged 24, was sentenced by Justice Trevor Riley to 15 years imprisonment with a non parole period of 10 years. Nona had recently been released from prison and had been convicted of over 80 offences before this crime. Nona said to police "I was too stoned, I was too drunk, I was in that criminal mode".
