Jabiru

pixeltoprint

The township of Jabiru (wikipedia link) was only built in 1982 in conjunction with the Ranger Uranium Mine. The town is surrounded by the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park.

The Jabiru Police Station was officially opened on the 22nd of June 1982 by Commissioner Peter McAulay.

The township has a population of less than 2000 people and covers 13 km2 but the police district covers about 23,000 km2. Much of the district is within the National Park and police have a close working relationship with the park rangers. Jabiru provides relief for surrounding stations such as Gunbalanya.
