Police Stations

Horseshoe Creek was opened in 1907 to suppress illegal sales of liquor and the giving of liquor to Aboriginals. It was closed in 1912, and a new station reopened in 1913 to 1915.

Maranboy Police Station is located 70 klm's east of Katherine on the Central Arnhem Highway. Established in 1916, it covers 23,000 Klm2, three communities and four cattle stations.

Charlotte Waters was opened in 1873 due to the Overland Telegraph line being assembled in this area. Staff had been experiencing hostilities with the local Aboriginal people. It closed in 1893 and was reopened in 1930 and closed again in 1938.

Barrow Creek police station was part of the Overland Telegraph station and established to provide protection for linesmen operating in the area.

Remote outpost of the Barkly Tablelands, established in 1889 to support policing, pastoral settlement, and cattle movement across the region. For 90 years, police and Aboriginal trackers patrolled vast distances, playing a vital role in the development of the Barkly cattle industry and local communities.

Avon Downs Police District was first known as the Rankine River Police District. The new station now known as Avon Downs was built in 1963.

The Borroloola police district is about 75,000 square kilometer's. With eight sworn officers. It has four main communities and has substantial mining and cattle stations.

The fist Police Station in the Wave Hill district. It was closed in 1918 in favour of a station at Wave Hill knows as Kalkaringi

The original Brocks’s Creek Police Station was built in Adelaide River in 1884 and transported to Brock’s Creek in 1897.
