Lake Evella/Gapuwiyak Police Station is located in north-eastern Arnhem Land. Adjacent to Lake Evella, 25 km south of the head of Buckingham Bay and the same distance south-west of Arnhem Bay. The address is Gapuwiyak Road.

Lake Evella was established in the late 1950's for the purpose of supplying timber for use by missions in the region. It grew larger when it became an outstation of Galiwin'ku and became permanently settled by 1968.

The Police Station officially opened in July 2013. With a brand-new state-of-the-art facility. Prior to this it was a Police Post serviced by Nhulunbuy (Gove) police members on a monthly basis. And in 2007 as part of the Federal intervention, it was a 'Themis post'.

Staffing includes a Sergeant, Constables, Aboriginal Community Police Officer and an Aboriginal Liaison Officer.

Key duties of the Police are:

Patrolling the highway targeting alcohol and illicit drugs coming into the community

Remote area patrols

Marine patrols

Motor Vehicle Registry such as vehicle checks/registrations and driver's licenses

General law enforcement

Community engagement
